The 2019 World Para Athletics Championships kicked off on November 7 in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. In total, 1,400 athletes are competing for medals and tickets to the Paralympics 2020, stated the television channel of the International Olympic Committee. 25 Uzbek athletes are participating at the championships that is taking place from 7 to 15 November.
According to the National Olympic Committee, para athletes of Uzbekistan performed successfully starting from the first day of the competition. In the T-12 long jump category Donior Saliev won a gold medal and a license for the Paralympic Games in Tokyo 2020 demonstrating a result of 7.44 meters. The National Olympic Committee states that this is the eighth license of Uzbek athletes. In September, swimmers Shohsanam Toshpulatova, Islom Asanov and Firdavs Musabekov won tickets to the Paralympics 2020 in Tokyo.
On Friday, November 15th, a meeting was held at the Consulate General of Uzbekistan in Dubai and the Northern Emirates with the Uzbek Paralympic Athletics Team along with the leadership of the Paralympic Committee of Uzbekistan. Consul General Alisher Salomov cordially congratulated the athletes on the victory and emphasized the enormous role of the country's leadership that pays a close attention to supporting youth and creating necessary conditions for their growth and development.
