The President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev visited Samarkand on July 26, 2019, to get familiar with development of regions and life of people.
Upon arrival at Samarkand International Airport, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev got acquainted with the project of reconstruction of this air harbor. It is envisaged to build another terminal, renovate the runway, expand aircraft parking and upgrade the radar systems. The new terminal will meet all international requirements and serve 600 passengers an hour.
The Head of the state instructed to introduce modern management at the airport, increase the number of trains and buses on routes during reconstruction works at the air harbor, create additional amenities for the population and tourists.

During his trip to Samarkand region, Shavkat Mirziyoyev has visited the farm Pure Milk Oqdaryo in Akdarya district.
“How to increase people’s incomes is what worries me all the time. Every region and any sphere are abundant with opportunities for this. In agriculture, it is the introduction of new technologies, enhancing the yields, processing the raw materials. Processing boosts income and creates jobs”, the President suggested.
Specializing in cotton and livestock, this farm wields 1,360 hectares of land. Cotton drip irrigation has been introduced.
The Head of the state pointed out the need to transfer the remaining farms and clusters to drip irrigation, reduce the cultivation of wheat on low-harvest lands and nurture high-yield fruits and vegetables instead, provide farmers and clusters with mini-technologies.

A tourist center is projected to be built along a rowing canal in Samarkand district in order to boost the tourism potential of Samarkand region.
President Shavkat Mirziyoyev visited the rowing canal and got acquainted with the project. Thus, for the project to be executed, it is planned to allocate 360 hectares of land for the complex, while a congress center, five-, four-, three-star hotels, alleys, pools, artificial islands, restaurants and other facilities are to be built on 80 hectares.
“Where do Samarkand people and compatriots who come from other regions go for rest? There is no such destination yet. Foreign tourists come mainly for pilgrimage and to explore historical monuments. Therefore, it is necessary to create conditions for recreational tourism, a place where our people and tourists could relax in their free time. However, the complex should be in harmony with pilgrimage tourism. This will become another growth point for Samarkand’s economy”, Shavkat Mirziyoyev said.
The number of tourists visiting Samarkand has doubled comparing with the previous year. In the next two years, it is planned to bring the number of foreign tourists to this region to 2 million, and 10 million to the entire country.

President Shavkat Mirziyoyev has enquired into the activities of Agromir limited liability company in Samarkand district.
Employing almost 450 people, the enterprise is capable of producing annually 60 thousand tons of juice and nectar as well as about 6 thousand tons of concentrates. Currently, the plant generates 42 types of goods. Production and packaging workshops are equipped with Italian and Swiss technologies. Last year, the company exported goods for 2.1 million dollars, while over the past period of the current year the indicators reached 5.5 million dollars.
The Head of the state reviewed the course of processing fruits and vegetables, and got familiar with samples of finished products.
In Samarkand district, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev has met with region’s public figures, chiefs of organizational sectors, aksakals, farmers and entrepreneurs.
The Head of the state noted that the main goal of the current trip to the region is to promote the development of tourism, entrepreneurship and processing industry. In particular, stressing the need to turn Samarkand into a tourism hub, the President gave corresponding instructions to the Deputy Prime Minister of the country and the khokim of the region.
Shavkat Mirziyoyev emphasized that the business climate in the region should be transformed and all conditions should be created for entrepreneurs, underscored that it is essential to work in accordance with the system defined at the July 23 meeting on small business development.
The President talked with khokims and sector leaders, individually considered the economy of each district, and instructed responsible officials on the implementation of initiatives and ideas outlined.
